The feathers were collected while in residency in Cill Rialaig, on the shores of Finian’s Bay.
I am offering these works BLIND, which means that after you purchase one, I choose which to surprise you with! Each one of these is a unique artwork, not a print of a painting, so once they’re gone, they’re gone!
Each piece is A6 and is available solo, as a set of 3, or as a block of 9.
Charring feathers results in the most delicate black charcoal pigment. Each piece is a site of metamorphosis - first the feather is transformed into charcoal using extreme heat, then the pigment is turned into paint through the process of mulling, and finally the ink is applied to the paper in a thick pool, and through evaporation the pigment sets and becomes a fixed painting. Each work is processed in the same way, but has its own character when it comes into conversation with the materials and my hand, rendering each one completely different, unique and un-repeatable.
