Bone Black, Liminal Water & Acacia Resin on Yupo Substrate
210 x 148.5mm
Original, unframed work

Made with bone black, a pigment I process and hand-grind myself. Each piece is a single, unrepeatable record of a water event: pigment carried by water collected at a meeting point of two waterbodies (fresh and salt) settling according to its own logic as the water stills.

The bone is calcium accumulated in a living body over its lifetime, transformed in extreme heat, then carried by water before finally settling. These works are indexical. They capture water in its perpetually changing states: absorbing, refracting, reflecting, drenching, flooding, flowing. Waterbodies appear here as mineral, pigment, river water, liminal water where salt meets fresh, bone and resin.

What remains is the trace of a movement that happened only once.
