ACTANT MATTER
Bone Black, Liminal Water, Liquid Iron & Acacia Resin on Yupo Substrate
345 x 270mm
Original, unframed work
Each work is a single, unrepeatable record of a water event. Handmade bone black pigment is carried by water collected where freshwater meets the sea, settling according to its own behaviour as the water slows and comes to rest.
Water appears here in many forms: liminal water, liquid mineral iron, pigment, bone and resin. It absorbs, reflects, refracts, floods, flows and deposits, leaving a unique record of its movement on the paper.
The pigment is made by hand from animal bone collected in County Meath. Calcium accumulated over a lifetime is transformed through fire, ground into a fine pigment, returned to water, and finally carried across the surface before settling into its final form.
What remains is the trace of a movement that happened only once.
Framed images are shown for display purposes. If you would like the work professionally framed and delivered, I'd be delighted to arrange this. Please get in touch to discuss the options.
