Derryclare is one of Ireland’s most scenic bodies of water and to work on the banks of the lake under the gaze of Derryclare mountain was a true joy and honour. While in residency at Interface Inagh we spent an afternoon of sunshine painting cyanotypes using the water from the lake. Its mineral rich waters bleached chemical magic into the paper. Dark and rich in tannin from the hills and fen the water leached sharp marks of navy and green. Low alkalinity may too have played a part in the hues and form presented. The paintings we made at Derryclare are in essence unique and mysterious. One of a kind portraits of the dark waters that flow through the Inagh Valley.
