WORKSHOP - Natural Pigment and Ink - Online - 6 April 2024

Creating colour from the landscape.
3 hour online workshop. Saturday 06 April 2024
9AM - 12PM (GMT) 
€85 (includes Colour Book worth €25)

This workshop will introduce you to the process of harnessing colour from the landscapes surrounding you. Whether you are deep in the wilds or surrounded by a concrete jungle, this workshop will show you the basic methods and tools you need to create sustainable paint, ink and pigment with natural and industrial materials.

Learn how to turn seaweed, plants and berries into deep hued inks. Learn the ancient methods of harnessing minerals from the earth to create ochres. Learn how to extract colour from scrap copper and iron. The workshop demonstration will include:

- Easy-to-find tools and materials required for safe natural colour making.|
- Identifying plants, best practices for foraging, and working with the seasons.
- Step-by-step guide to 3 colour-making processes - grinding, soaking and boiling that can be applied to almost any natural material.
- Introduction to modifiers - tweaking PH levels, adding oxides and lightfastness of colour.
- How to use binders and preservatives.
- How to track your recipes and experiments.
- Colour history and resources worth exploring.

Each participant will be emailed my COLOUR BOOK ahead of the workshop. The book contains recipes and guides covered in the workshop and will support your colour experiments into the future.

No tools or previous experience is required.
